Following discussions with borough and local state officials, including a June 11 call regarding the proposed fiber-optic project, Lightpath has informed the borough that it is actively pursuing alternative routes that would avoid construction within historic Newtown Borough.
According to the company, concerns raised by residents and local officials regarding the proposed route along Washington Avenue and State Street prompted a pause in construction activities in May. During the June 11 discussion, Lightpath advised that it had identified two potential alternative routes and was evaluating their feasibility. Both alternative routes avoid Newtown Borough completely, though no final route has been selected at this time.
As of July 1, 2026, Lightpath is working to secure the necessary permits and easement for one of the proposed alternate routes. As soon as we have additional information to share, we will do so here.
